Important tips to prevent a drunk driving arrest

The best way to prevent a drunk driving arrest requires you to refrain from drinking and driving. However, considering that drinking is close to a necessary part of most social activities, it might be so tempting to drink a few adult beverages while you're enjoying time with friends that you simply can't control yourself.

This is when things get dangerous: After the first drink, many Florida drivers are unable to say no to a second, third, fourth or fifth. Before you know it, you could be too drunk to drive.

If you know that it's going to be impossible to stop drinking during social activities, the following advice will help prevent you from getting arrested for drunk driving in the future:

Download a ride-sharing application: Uber and Lyft are excellent ride-sharing apps that you can install on your smartphone. Make sure that you set up your profiles on these apps in advance so that if you become too drunk to drive, it's just a matter of whipping out your cellphone, pressing a button and, presto, a safe ride is there to take you home.

Memorize a few phone numbers: When you're intoxicated, it's easy to lose your phone. Or, if your phone battery dies, you won't have a way of contacting a friend or family member for help getting home. However, if you have some phone numbers memorized you can turn to virtually anyone and ask to use their phone to make an emergency call.

Use a designated driver: This is the most traditional way to avoid drunk driving and it's very useful. Having one person in your friend group who will stay sober and to whom you give your keys at the beginning of the night is essential. This person will drive you home safely at the end of the night.

These are excellent tips to help prevent a drunk driving arrest in the future. If you're already facing a drunk driving charge, however, it's important to educate yourself about the law as it applies to your case. Armed with a full understanding of the legal issues at play, you'll be better prepared to defend yourself in court against the allegations.
