The town of Jupiter has a reputation for its pristine beaches, unique eateries, and cozy hangouts. In some ways, Jupiter has the small-town charm, with life-long locals and long-standing establishments; in others, it exudes a touristy cosmopolitan air of modernity and youth. The dreamy Jupiter experience has both natives and visitors alike enjoying the sites and sounds of South Florida.
Yet, in the midst of so many beaches, bars and restaurants, the long-arm of the law can quickly burst the bubble of enjoyment. Police presence in Jupiter, though subtle, is VERY strong. The fact that law enforcement in Jupiter is cleverly hidden makes it that much more difficult to avoid trouble – hence, the amount of DUI arrests, speeding tickets, and charges of Driving Without a License that ultimately flood the Palm Beach County court system.
So, where in Jupiter can you expect the most police activity?
Love Street
Famous for its row of delicious waterfront restaurants, Love Street is a popular spot that makes even locals feel like they are on vacation. The temptation to have one too many drinks is natural, with the breeze from both the intercoastal and the Loxahatchee River hugging patrons and the musical notes of live entertainment enhancing the beachy mood. If it sounds perfect, it’s because it IS, and the police know this. While you enjoy a relaxing day of drinking for a momentary escape, just keep in mind that you may not escape the detection of law enforcement.
Abacoa
Reminiscent of Pleasantville, Abacoa is a wholesome community of perfectly-manicured townhouses, businesses and homes. It is heavily regulated by HOAs for a purposeful sense of uniformity. In its most impeccable neighborhoods, Abacoa boasts multi-million dollar houses with stunning architectural designs.
It is the commercial pockets and college-student presence in Abacoa that bring this village down to earth – however slightly. Every day, students from the nearby Florida Atlantic University campus and other outsiders patronize the local bars and restaurants. Abacoa also attracts crowds as the home of Roger Dean Stadium, where baseball teams conduct their Spring training. To round it out, Abacoa also hosts live entertainment, food trucks, and festivals in the downtown area.
Naturally, this mixture of wealthy privacy and public access calls for increased police presence to strike the perfect balance. Law enforcement in Abacoa commonly address noise complaints, ordinance violations, drug offenses, and alcohol-related crimes.
I-95 and Donald Ross Road
Florida troopers linger on the highway at the city line between Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter. The stretch between the PGA/Military exits (79A, B, AB and C) and Donald Ross (83) is notorious for traffic stops.
Military Trail, from Donald Ross to Indiantown
A number of schools and medical facilities are on or near Military trail between Donald Ross Road and Indiantown Road. The Jupiter Public Library is also within this area, at the intersection of Military and Toney Penna. Slightly south of Jupiter Lakes Boulevard on Military Trail is the post office. Lastly, the police station itself is on Military trail near Indiantown Road. With so many vulnerable and valuable places to protect, police frequently patrol the vicinity.
Riverbend Park
As you approach Riverbend Park heading west on Indiantown Road, the dwindling traffic and imminent countryside can cause highway hypnosis. Law enforcement hides in or near the park to catch those on Indiantown who aren’t paying attention.
Are you safe from lights and sirens once you enter the park? Naturally (pun intended), the answer is NO! Police regularly monitor the area to enforce park rules and regulations.
A1A…All of it.
When it comes to traffic stops on A1A in Jupiter, the possibilities are endless. You may be on the way to Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa, Carlin Park, or just the good ole beach. Regardless of your destination, chances are you are on A1A to enjoy life. A1A is the road to many weddings, bridal showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, and other cheerful milestones. The smell of the sea, the sight of luxurious oceanfront condos, and the spirit of happy occasions create the desire for high living, and the police are there to witness the daydream.
Harbourside Place
If Jupiter had a “downtown,” Harbourside would be it. Located on the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 1 and Indiantown Road along the intracoastal, Harbourside is a waterfront area for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Boutique stores, delicious restaurants, a hotel, an amphitheater, and a riverwalk make Harbourside a one-stop shop for leisure and luxury. It is also a one-stop shop for arrests. Law enforcement presence at Harbourside is heavy in anticipation of DUIs, Assault, Battery, traffic violations, jaywalking, disorderly intoxication, and possession of open container.
Marcinski Rd
Marcinski Road is the artery that leads beachgoers to the heart of the ocean. It’s not a long road, but the theme here is quality over quantity. Cutting through U.S. 1 and A1A going west to east, Marcinski ends at the popular Jupiter Off-leash Dog Beach. Due to the volume of pedestrian – and canine – activity, police frequently make their rounds.
Center Street
This narrow but busy street connects Alternate A1A to Indiantown Road. Near A-A1A, Center Street has an east-west trajectory; as it approaches Indiantown Rd, Center Street dips southwest. A mix of residential and commercial properties, most would agree that Center Street has outgrown itself. Some propose a limit on the amount of traffic; others want additional lanes to widen the street. In the midst of the mini chaos, law enforcement is there to catch the common mistake of exceeding the 35mph speed limit.
